In the summer of 1946 the RAF High Speed Flight was reformed and arrived at RAF Tangmere to make an attempt on the World Airspeed Record. This exhibition marks 75 years since the attempt and covers the history of the RAF High Speed Flight, the personnel involved including the pilots chosen to make the record attempt, ‘Teddy Donaldson and Bill Waterton and the aircraft involved in the story of the flight’s success in the late summer of 1946.

The exhibition also includes films illustrating the World Record attempt and the development of Britain’s first jet fighter, the Gloster Meteor.

The ‘1946 Record Attempt’ exhibition runs from the 1 September until the end of November 2021 at The Tangmere Military Aviation Museum.
